FAQ

The mission of the Academy of Media Literacy is:

  • To provide students with the ability to read, analyze, evaluate, and produce communication in a variety of forms.
  • To give the students authentic experiences in creating and using media to entertain, inform, and persuade.
  • To provide students with critical thinking skills, which enable them to deconstruct and interpret messages and to develop independent judgments about media content.
  • To facilitate the students’ ability to use a variety of media to produce effective and responsible media.

Four different strands within the Media Literacy Academy have been designed to guide students in a selection of courses that build upon their strengths and individual interests. To complete the program in a particular strand, students will earn at least 3 credits in Academy-approved courses for that strand, and will present a Capstone Experience demonstrating their accomplishments. Students at Blair who love to communicate through the written or spoken word, through music or theater, behind or in front of the camera, or through ancient or modern technologies will find a course of study to support them as they prepare for their chosen careers. Media Literacy strands include:

  • Broadcast & Mass Media
  • Theater & Dance
  • Visual Arts
  • Vocal & Instramental Music
