“Now, more than ever…we cannot afford
not to know the thoughts, the habits, the ways of life of other people.” –Yo-Yo
Ma
The mission of the Academy of International Studies and Law is: to nurture students' interest in these fields and to prepare thems for further study and careers in either of these disciplines or in the many areas where they overlap.
- to provide students with the information and experiences essential
in fostering a more global perspective of political systems, history,
economic issues, and cultures.
- to combine this knowledge with real-world
connections so students can begin to develop the skills they will apply
in a variety of settings.
- to have students and teachers collaborate
to identify academic and career possibilities beyond the experience
at Montgomery Blair High School.
To accomplish this mission the Academy of International Studies offers
an impressive array of courses, field trips, international exchanges,
guest speakers and other activities. Students have many choices in
earning the required three credits in the academy and completing an independent
project as a senior. Students will leave well prepared to pursue paths
leading to opportunities in the local community, government service and
the military, international humanitarian service, international business
and law, teaching and numerous other fields. We welcome any student who
desires to learn and grow and play a role in changing our world for the
better!
