Our Career Academies:

the Academies at Montgomery Blair
are communities of students and educators united by a set of common interests and career goals. Our mission is to provide a nurturing environment in which students areLogo:

•Challenged to achieve the highest level of academic rigor
•Supported in their pursuit of academic and career goals
•Provided career pathways that meet their interests and needs
•Equipped with the skills needed to be successful beyond high school

The Ninth Grade Academy:

Blair ninth graders begin their high school experience as a member of the Ninth Grade Academy and complete the freshman cornerstone course, Connections. In sophomore year, students move into one of the five career Academies.

The ESOL Academy

In addition to the ninth grade academy and the five career academies, the academies at Blair also offer a unique experience for our ESOL students through the The ESOL Academy.

The ESOL Academy serves to prepare our ESOL students for the career Academies at Montgomery Blair.

Our dedicated ESOL teachers explain the rules, procedures and student life at Blair and help ESOL students to make the right decisions about their academic and career paths during their years at Blair and beyond.

Academic progress of ESOL Academy students is carefully monitored and students meet with their advisors, counselor and classroom teachers when there is trouble. We want our students to suceed now so that they will continue to succeed throughout their years at Blair!

ACADEMY WEEK: December 15 - 19, 2008

Activities for the Academy Day initially scheduled for December 18 have been modified as follows:

  1. We will now have an Academy Week instead of an Academy day
  2. The Academy Week will be characterized by the following:
    1. There will be a school wide celebration of the academies on December 15 (classes will not be interrupted).
    2. Every day during the week of December 15 – 19, one of the career themed academies will have a 3 minutes show on InfoFlow.
    3. All academies (9th Grade, ESOL, and the 5 career themed academies) will each host a separate “In-House field trip / Activity” during the Academy Week. Students will sign up to participate in those “In-House field trips / Activities” for their respective academies.
    4. The December 16th Advisory will include a short video on the Academies at Blair.
    5. The bell schedule for the week will remain unchanged. All classes should continue as usual.
    6. Students who sign up to participate in the “In-House field trips / Activities” will be pulled out of  their classes. We are therefore asking all teachers to – in principle – please allow those students to attend their respective “In-House field trips / Activities” and make up any missed work.
    7. Some academies may be inviting guest speakers for specialized elective courses. Teachers of concerned elective courses will be contacted by Academy Lead Teachers directly.
  3. If you would like to volunteer to be a Guest Speaker for the Academy Week or know someone who might be interested, please contact the Academy Office.

If you have any question(s), please contact the Academy Office.
